My son got married today :) Of course, being the mother of the groom, I took hundreds of photos! The maid of honor is from Hawaii and brought the orchids over for the cake. It was quite beautiful. Of all the non-people shots, this is one of my favorites.

This is from The Morikami Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, FL. This particular area of the Gardens is called the "Shinden Garden." The entire place is gorgeous!

Since yesterday was so gray and rainy, it was nice to see the sun today. I like watching the sun slowly creep across the garden and eventually light it all up. I love how the flowers that are not yet in the sunlight have not opened yet. Their siblings in the sun are beginning to wake up :)

Back out to the garden today to see what other little lovelies are starting to appear. I think my flowers are not quite sure what to do this year - bloom or don't bloom. It's finally getting a bit warmer during the day, but still quite cold at night. It's causing mass confusion for the plants in my garden!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I put my camera on auto and pointed it directly into the bright sun. I was quite surprised at the outcome. A bit eery, and you would hardly know it was in the middle of the day! This is straight out of the camera, only cropped a bit.

This is what happens to leaves that you forgot to pick up last fall and have sat all winter. They seem to collect in one spot :) My lawn guys will love me when they come for the first time this spring. (On a side note - I DID pick up most of the leaves - just a few stragglers that I missed!)

Such a gorgeous day out today. I was looking at one of the trees in my back yard and noticed all the little buds just busting to bloom. It's been more on the chilly side this spring, so things are a bit late blooming here; but when this tree does, it is gorgeous. Hard to believe when you look at it now. It's a flowering Yoshino Cherry tree, and has beautiful little white flowers in full bloom. I can hardly wait!

I'll admit it, I love Starbucks. They're on every corner around here. I'm pretty sure I've been to them all! I was at the original Starbucks last fall in Seattle, so when they recently came out with their Pike Place Roast, of course, I had to get some from my neighborhood store. Liked the display. Good coffee! Hard to believe they've been around since 1971. Where does the time go ...

This is the side of an old truck at my favorite fruit and vegetable stand - Reggie's Veggies. The stand has been on this corner for as long as I can remember. So has this truck! Both front tires are flat and the front is pretty beat up. Took this from my car driving by, and obviously misjudged and didn't get the whole truck in the shot :) You're not missing anything. I don't think they could move it even if they wanted to. They do spruce up the paint job each year :)

Well, at least now I know where all the birdseed is going. I was beginning to think I had some pterodactyl's in the yard or something. Was having to refill the feeder twice a day. Come on squirrels, you have your own feeder! Reminded me a bit of one of my favorite shots from a few years ago. How could I not remember that squirrels will eat anything!

On a side note, we woke up to about an inch of snow/ice this morning. Too much. Forecast says 75 for this weekend. Talk about a temperature range. Ahhhh, spring in Boise!

Little buds popping up in my garden finally. This is a *very* small flower. Almost stepped on it while pulling a few weeds :) I do love spring ... all that is dormant in the winter just wakes up one day. Pretty amazing to me how something this small can even survive the brutal winter temperatures and bloom in the spring.

I can't locate the correct name for this tree, but I believe it's a type of ornamental Japanese Flowering Cherry tree. Lots of people have them around here, and I love when they bloom in the Spring. I think it's interesting how the trunk of the tree is so large for what is a rather small tree. Small in stature, maybe, but large in the pretty department :) If anyone knows the exact name, I'm all ears!

Muir Woods National Monument is a remnant of ancient coast redwood forests that blanketed many northern California coastal valleys before the 1800s. Local businessman William Kent and his wife Elizabeth Thacher Kent bought land in this valley in 1905 to protect one of the last stands of uncut redwoods. To ensure permanent protection, they donated 295 acres of redwoods to the federal government. In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed the area a national monument. At William Kent's request, it was named for conservationist John Muir. Thanks to the inspiration of John Muir and the generous gift of the Kent family, 100 years later we are still able to experience this ancient old-growth forest. We have been entrusted to carry on the legacy of Kent and Muir, protecting this awe-inspiring place for future generations and working towards the preservation of wilderness, wildness, and natural wonder.

Today, the tour bus took us down the coastline to Monterey, Pebble Beach, and Carmel. Included was a drive along the 17-Mile Drive, where "The Lone Cypress" is located, along with the famous Pebble Beach Golf Club.

San Francisco Sightseeing :
July 11, 2009

Debated on whether or not to rent a car while in San Francisco. Decided to forego that expense, plus the cost of overnight parking at the hotel. Ended up taking a City Tour, which included stops in Chinatown, the Palace of Fine Arts, Nob Hill, Grace Cathedral, Lombard Street, Golden Gate Park, a Japanese Tea Garden, Alamo Square Park (which included a Victorian home tour of one of the Painted Ladies), and Sausalito. It was a wonderful tour, that included a driver and a tour guide. The tour guide actually got off the shuttle with the group and gave a guided walking tour at each stop. Was a great way to see many of the incredible attractions San Francisco has to offer, without spending the day driving in circles and lost in a rental car!
